Buy a seed that is in stock, equip it, and plant it inside a brown plot on your own farm. Leave room around the first plant so you can recognize it when you return to harvest.

Look at the current stock and the balance shown in your game. For a first planting, choose one affordable seed that is available. Buying one makes it easier to follow the entire planting and harvesting loop before filling a plot with several different crops.
Plant on the soil
Confirm a visible change
Return to your farm, equip the seed, and target brown soil inside the plot. Check the planted spot before trying again. A tap on scenery or a path can look like a planting attempt even though you never targeted the soil.
Collect a mature crop
Keep track of what grew
Wait for the plant to mature, then try harvesting it. Note the seed cost and what you received at harvest before buying more of the same seed. That record will be useful when comparing your next purchase.
